Congratulations to ISC client Freddie Burns who last night picked up the Gilbert Golden Boot Award at the evening’s Aviva Premiership Awards, held at the Park Lane Hilton.
The Award is for most points kicked in the Aviva Premiership and it’s the first time that Freddie has won the award, his 240 point total just pipping the 239 points of Gareth Steenson of Exeter Chiefs. It went down to the wire. Nick Evans of Harlequins was also in the frame but, ultimately, it came down to the points that Burns and Steenson accrued in the final Premiership game of the season, which saw the two fly-halves go head-to-head, as Exeter hosted Gloucester. Burns also finished the season as the Aviva Premiership’s highest total points scorer, by adding two tries to his tally to take his points total to 250. Add to that his European and LV Cup total and Burns amassed a remarkable 350 points for Gloucester this season. The award capped an excellent season for Burns, which saw him make his full England debut in the country’s first win v New Zealand since before the 2003 RWC, and also be picked for England on their tour of Argentina this summer, as well as being the first Gloucester player to be named the Young Player of the Year twice, and guiding Gloucester through to the Heineken Cup next season in the process.
